NWFP Governor Lieutenant General Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah (Retd) has strongly condemned the suicide attack on Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz in which several persons were killed and injured.

In a press statement issued here, the governor has described it a nefarious attempt of the anti-Pakistan elements and said: "Such elements are, in fact, out to create hurdles in the struggle waged for economic development of the country and prosperity of the people."

He said: "The leadership of Pakistan and its people are staunchly committed to achieve this cherished goal and such ugly attempts could never cause to discourage them."

The governor has also appealed to the people to maintain complete unity in their ranks and files and must continue their efforts for achieving the targets.

He has also expressed his heartfelt sympathies with the relatives of the deceased and early recovery of the injured.

Chairman Lahore Stock Exchange (LSE) Syed Asim Zafar has condemned the act of terrorism carried out against Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz.

In a statement here on Saturday, Asim also welcomed the resolve and commitment shown by Shaukat Aziz after the suicide attack on his life, to fight all forms of terrorism against Pakistan and Islam. He also sympathised with the families of the innocent people who lost their lives in the attack.

APP ADDS: A large number of Parliamentarians and federal ministers visited the residence of Finance Minister and Prime Minister-designate Shaukat Aziz on Saturday to felicitate him on escaping unhurt in the Friday' s suicide bomb attack.

They wished him long life and paid their gratitude to Allah Almighty for keeping Aziz safe and sound. The Finance Minister thanked al1 the visitors.

Shaukat Aziz said his mission was to serve Pakistan and he would do whatever he could for the welfare of the country, its people and the Muslim Ummah.

Those who met the Finance Minister included former Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, NA Kashmir Committee Chairman Hamid Nasir Chattha, Federal Ministers Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, Naseer Khan, Dr Gulab Ghazi Jamal, NRB Chairman Daniyal Aziz, PM's Advisor on Women Affairs, Nelofar Bakhtiar and other members of the Parliament and elite of the city.

They praised the Prime Minister-designate for his courage and bravery in the face of the cowardly attack. Finance Minister and Prime Minister-designate Shaukat Aziz on Saturday attended the 'Namaz-e-Janaza' of Abdul Rehman driver who was killed in the bomb attack in Fateh Jhang.

The Namaz-e-Janaza of the deceased was held at the Prime Minister House and attended by all the staff officers and other members. Later, the minister met with the widow and children of the deceased and offered his profound condolence.

He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and said the sacrifice of Abdul Rehman would be long remembered.

Shaukat Aziz also announced Rs 300,000 in assistance for the bereaved family while another Rs 100,000 would be given by the Prime Minister House. He also announced to immediately provide a job to the deceased's son and said his family would continue to enjoy the official house facility.

The minister said he was deeply grieved over the tragic death of Abdul Rehman but assured that the government and he himself would continue to look after his family.

He praised the services and sacrifice of Rehman for the government and the country.
